Inspiring Creativity, Confidence, and Collaboration

The Newtowne Players' 1-week Summer Camp offers rising 6th through rising 9th graders an engaging experience designed to nurture their theatrical talents.

Camp will run Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, with an additional hour until 4:00 PM reserved for staff meetings or cleanup. Throughout the week, campers will receive expert guidance from experienced NTP members as they explore acting, singing, dancing, and improvisation. Along the way, they'll build self-confidence, improve public speaking, and develop essential teamwork and communication skills.

To ensure a comfortable experience, campers will have two snack breaks and a lunch break each day. Snacks will be provided by us, but parents must provide lunch. All snacks must be pre-packaged with ingredient lists visible at all times.

The camp will take place on stage, in the house, and in the lobby. For safety, campers will not be permitted in the shop, box office, green room, or production office. Enrollment is limited to ensure individual attention, with a minimum of 15 and a maximum of 30 participants. Campers may choose to participate as performers or focus on technical theatre.

The experience concludes with a special performance where campers will showcase their hard work and growth. Join us for a memorable journey where creativity takes center stage!

Show Director

The Show Director will oversee the artistic vision of the summer camp production, guiding the development of blocking, choreography, and script interpretation. They will coach actors on line delivery and collaborate with fellow directors to ensure a cohesive vision. This role also emphasizes fostering a safe, supportive environment for all youth participants. The position offers a compensation of $500.
​Responsibilities:
  • Assist in hiring remaining camp staff before the program begins.
  • Develop and implement the artistic vision for the summer camp production, aligning with camp objectives and themes.
  • Teach and oversee blocking and choreography, ensuring clarity, creativity, and consistency.
  • Provide actors with guidance on line delivery, characterization, and script interpretation, offering constructive feedback throughout rehearsals.
  • Collaborate with fellow directors (e.g., musical director, choreographer) to maintain a cohesive production vision.
  • Lead efficient rehearsals, managing time effectively while fostering a positive and inclusive environment.
  • Mentor campers, encouraging their creative growth and self-confidence.
  • Work closely with camp staff to address logistical and scheduling needs related to the production.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all participants by adhering to camp policies and procedures.​
Qualifications:
  • Proven experience directing theatrical productions, preferably in educational or camp settings.
  • Strong knowledge of theatrical techniques, including blocking, choreography, and acting.

Music Director

​This role involves overseeing the artistic development of the camp's production, including teaching vocal lines, solos, and ensemble numbers. The Music Director will coach actors on vocal technique, ensuring that musical performances align with character portrayal and the production's overall vision. Collaboration with other directors is essential to maintain a cohesive artistic direction, and the ideal candidate will foster a safe, supportive environment for all youth participants. The position offers a compensation ​of $500.
​Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the hiring process for remaining camp staff prior to the program's start.
  • Develop and implement the musical vision for the summer camp production, ensuring alignment with the camp's objectives and theme.
  • Teach and oversee all vocal components, including ensemble splits, solos, and small group numbers, ensuring clarity, creativity, and consistency.
  • Provide vocal coaching on technique, breathing, and song interpretation, offering constructive feedback throughout rehearsals.
  • Collaborate with other creative staff (e.g., show director, choreographer) to ensure a cohesive and well-integrated production.
  • Lead rehearsals efficiently, managing time effectively while fostering a positive and inclusive environment.
  • Mentor and support campers, encouraging their creative growth and building self-confidence.
  • Work closely with camp staff to address logistical or scheduling concerns related to the production.
  • Prioritize the safety and well-being of all youth participants, adhering to established camp policies and procedures.
Qualifications:
  • Previous experience as a Music Director for theatrical productions, ideally in a camp or educational setting.
  • Strong knowledge of vocal techniques, including breathing, intonation, placement, blend, and balance.
  • Understanding of theatrical techniques and their impact on vocal performance, such as choreography and blocking.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate young performers.
  • Creative vision with the ability to translate written music into dynamic and engaging performances.
  • Strong collaborative skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.

Camp Producer​

The Camp Producer is a dynamic and organized individual who ensures the smooth operation of our one-week theatrical camp. This pivotal role includes overseeing registration, communicating with parents, managing staff, handling accident and incident reports, addressing parental concerns, and coordinating with the theater facilities team. The position is a two-year commitment and includes a $500 stipend each summer.​
​Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the hiring of all camp staff prior to the start of camp.
  • Manage the registration process, including collection of required paperwork and participant fees.
  • Communicate clearly and promptly with parents/guardians about camp logistics, schedules, and updates in the lead-up to camp.
  • Supervise and support camp staff—including counselors, instructors, and volunteers—to ensure a safe, positive experience for all participants.
  • Respond to accidents and incidents promptly and in accordance with established camp protocols.
  • Address parental concerns and complaints in a professional, timely manner, working toward effective resolutions.
  • Coordinate with the theater facilities team to ensure camp activities run smoothly within the venue.
  • Maintain accurate records of attendance, incidents, and other relevant information.
  • Implement emergency procedures when necessary, prioritizing the safety of campers and staff.
  • Assist with setup and breakdown of camp facilities before and after the camp week.​
Qualifications:
  • ​Previous experience in camp administration, event management, or a related field is preferred.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills with a keen attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with parents, staff, and external partners.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities and a capacity to motivate and support a diverse team.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to stay calm and composed under pressure.
  • Familiarity with theater production or performing arts education is a plus.
  • CPR and First Aid certification is preferred.

Technical Director​

​The Camp Technical Director will oversee all technical aspects of the show, including set construction, lighting, sound, and special effects. Working closely with the camp director, the Technical Director will help bring the artistic vision to life and provide instruction to campers interested in technical theater. The position offers a compensation of $250.
​Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with the Camp Director to understand and support their artistic vision, ensuring all technical elements align accordingly.
  • Oversee all technical aspects of the production, including set construction, lighting, sound design, and special effects.
  • Provide regular updates to the Camp Director and production team, addressing concerns and making necessary adjustments.
  • Teach and mentor campers interested in technical theater, covering equipment operation, safety procedures, and technical skills.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues during rehearsals and performances to ensure smooth and safe execution.
  • Work closely with stage managers, designers, and crew members to coordinate technical elements across departments.
  • Maintain and properly store all technical equipment and materials before, during, and after the camp session.
  • Support and inspire campers pursuing technical theater, encouraging creativity and confidence in their abilities.
Qualifications:
  • Experience in technical theater, ideally in a camp or educational setting.
  • Proficiency in set construction, lighting, sound, and special effects.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with both staff and campers.
  • Ability to teach and mentor campers of varying skill levels in technical theater practices.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and the capacity to stay calm under pressure.
  • Flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • CPR and First Aid certification preferred.

Stage Manager

​The Camp Stage Manager will ensure the smooth operation of rehearsals and performances during the one-week theatrical camp. Key responsibilities include sending out rehearsal reports, communicating with parents and children, taking blocking notes, managing props, and maintaining timekeeping to ensure proper breaks. The position offers a compensation of $250.
​Responsibilities:
  • ​Send out daily rehearsal reports to camp staff and parents, including updates on progress, schedule changes, and other relevant information.
  • Communicate regularly with parents and participants, providing clear daily instructions (e.g., what to bring such as costumes, snacks, or scripts).
  • Take detailed blocking notes during rehearsals, documenting actor movement and stage positioning.
  • Manage all props for the show, including inventory, organization, and maintenance.
  • Keep time during rehearsals to ensure schedules are followed and proper breaks are taken.
  • Serve as stage manager during performances, overseeing backstage operations, cues, and scene transitions.
  • Support camp staff and participants as needed, fostering a positive and collaborative rehearsal environment.
  • Assist with additional production-related duties as assigned by the camp director or production team.
Qualifications:
  • ​Previous experience in stage management, preferably in a theatrical or camp setting.
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking skills, with the ability to prioritize effectively.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to interact professionally with parents, children, and staff.
  • Attention to detail and ability to take thorough and accurate notes.
  • Familiarity with theatrical production, including blocking, props management, and backstage operations.
  • Flexible and adaptable, with strong problem-solving skills in a fast-paced environment.
  • CPR and First Aid certification preferred.

Camp Counselor

​Camp Counselors will play a crucial role in creating a positive and inclusive environment for campers, ensuring their engagement, safety, and well-being throughout the camp week. In addition to traditional camp counselor duties, counselors will assist with technical needs and may oversee specific areas of the show, such as costumes or props. The position offers a compensation of $250.
​Responsibilities:
  • ​Supervise and engage campers, ensuring active participation in camp activities, rehearsals, and workshops.
  • De-escalate conflicts and resolve disputes calmly, promoting positive communication and teamwork.
  • Take regular attendance to ensure campers are present and accounted for.
  • Assist the production team with technical tasks, such as set construction, costume fittings, and prop management.
  • Potentially oversee specific areas of the show (e.g., costumes, props), collaborating with campers to bring the director's vision to life.
  • Lead or assist with group activities, games, and workshops to foster creativity, teamwork, and personal growth.
  • Provide emotional support and guidance to campers, building rapport and trust for a safe, nurturing environment.
  • Ensure camper safety and well-being, following camp protocols and procedures.
  • Collaborate with fellow counselors, staff, and directors to maintain a cohesive camp experience.
Qualifications:
  • ​Previous experience working with children, preferably in camp, educational, or theater settings.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to connect with campers of diverse backgrounds.
  • Strong conflict resolution skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • Enthusiasm for the performing arts and willingness to assist with technical aspects of production.
  • Flexibility, adaptability, and the ability to multitask effectively.
  • CPR and First Aid certification preferred.
