Shemika Renee, an Air Force veteran, is an award winning makeup artist, award nominated actress, and costumer who has been in her creative field for 20 years. She has been on stage throughout the Washington DC metro area and southern Maryland. Merging her acting, makeup and costuming skills with her love for history, storytelling and educating people of all ages she began working at her children's schools telling the stories of historical figures in first person narratie. Dressed as the historical figures she brings history to life, making it more accessible to her audiences. In 2019 she created, and starred in her own one woman show, “Ms. Story’s Living History”(copyright) which returned to stages in 2024. In February 2023, she was highlighted on the Today Show’s 3rd Hour segment for her work honoring African American women in history. Her American History list of historical figures grows daily and has expanded to include Women of Color in World History. Her monologues incorporate little known facts of well known figures and dispel myths often attributed to them. She works hard to share stories of lesser known figures as well. |
